Who Are These Alien Mobile Photographers?

You've probably heard the saying, "The world doesn't stand still." Everything that was once groundbreaking eventually becomes the norm. Photography is no exception—it's all driven by technology. There was a time when we couldn’t even imagine that photos taken with a regular mobile phone could compete with those from a professional camera.

Today, many professional camera manufacturers understand that their competition isn’t just other camera brands—it’s also the mobile phone market. There was a time when photography enthusiasts would automatically buy a DSLR. But now, no one is surprised by the convenience of having a high-quality camera right in their pocket.

More and more photographers are choosing mobile phones for their work. A friend of mine, a photographer with huge experience, abandoned his camera and now shoots exclusively on his iPhone—and his clientele is high-end fashion. Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m not against professional cameras at all. In fact, I’d love to get myself a mirrorless buddy in the future. But I have to say that for most types of photography, a smartphone is more than enough.

Surprised? My photography instructor once told me, "You can take a picture with a slipper if you have to—it's not about the tool, it’s about the person behind it." There’s a deep truth in that. The outdated belief that a real photographer must have a professional camera is fading away. Technology is advancing, and unless you're shooting a football match in a massive stadium or trying to photograph a lion in Australia without getting too close, your smartphone will do just fine.

All the photos you see in my gallery were taken with a Samsung S22 Ultra. Some of them have even been featured in well-known magazines. Even VOGUE has a dedicated category for mobile photography.

Does this mean cameras will go extinct like dinosaurs? Not at all. There are incredible photographers who still shoot with old film cameras. Back then, there was no built-in stabilization, so many photos came out blurry—but that didn’t stop them. Because photography isn’t just about sharpness or megapixels; it’s about capturing the moment. Some people chase adrenaline by skydiving, while others chase the perfect shot—and the thrill is just as real. I still remember the rush of excitement when I nailed an incredible shot. That chase for the perfect frame never gets old.

Many people still find mobile photographers surprising or even dismiss them altogether, but the reality is that the most important part of the process isn’t the camera—it’s the eye behind it. A great photographer can see beauty in the ordinary and capture it—even with a slipper—so perfectly that you'd never guess it was taken with one. It’s not about the gear; it’s about the vision, the composition, and the emotion behind each shot.
